Black Bean Salad
Growing Things! - DAY 3

Also, the parsley doesn't show much signs of anything yet, but I'm still holding out hope.

Growing Things! - DAY 2

Yay, more stuff!
So, I have to admit, my time lately has had many demands on it, especially my precious evening diving time, and diving has not been a priority. I've been working so much that buying food doesn't really hurt my budget as much as it did before. I did have an evening off recently during the right time of week to catch my old friend the produce dumpster in its overflowing prime. And overflowing it was, indeed.

It's hard to tell from this picture, but the vast majority of what I scored were apples. I think there were at least a dozen or so in all, most looking much better than that bruised on the bottom in the front there. I also got some peppers that I eventually roasted, but it wasn't as good as it used to be, because I no longer have a gas stove, so I had to roast them under the broiler in my toaster oven. And I totally burned my wrist taking out the peppers at one point. Boo.

The rest of the haul consisted of two papayas, a couple grapefruits, a mandarin, and what I think is a potato. When I picked it up I didn't notice that one end of the potato was rotting, but it was huge, so even with that part cut off, it's still a lot of potato. If that's indeed what it is. Note to self: papayas are huge and tempting to grab, but I don't like them, so it's kind of pointless to take them. Really. Don't do it. I know this is at least the second time I've done this, but I think I've learned my lesson now.
